Tractor-trailer fire closes NB traffic of Pennyrile Parkway near 23 mm

Northbound traffic remains closed on the Pennyrile Parkway near the 23 mile-marker, where a tractor-trailer hauling garbage caught fire this morning.

Faulty brakes on the trailer caused the tires to ignite and that started a trash fire, according to Christian County Sheriff’s Deputy Andy Sanderson.

Crofton fire-fighters got the blaze extinguished, but northbound traffic will likely be diverted onto US 41 North at Exit 11 by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for at least another couple hours while garbage is unloaded from the damaged trailer.

Southbound traffic is slowly moving in the area of the fire.

No one was injured in the incident.
