The local Fraternal Order of Eagles club and Eagles Auxiliary gave over $11,000 in checks to area causes during a ceremony Monday night.
About $5,100 of that amount went to the new Court Appointed Special Advocates program, which helps children in the court system have positive outcomes and permanent placements in a safe home.
Board Chair Rico Rodriguez says it takes cash donations and volunteers to make the program work.
Another $5,100 check went to Sanctuary, Inc. and Executive Director Heather Lancaster says they will install newer, safer playground equipment for children of domestic violence victims who stay at Sanctuary.
A $500 scholarship was presented to Jenna Humphries, who will attend Hopkinsville Community College in the fall.
Other groups receiving smaller checks included Crime Stoppers, the Christian County Humane Society, St. Lukes Free Clinic and the Christian County Imagination Library.
