Princeton’s Emma Talley had an opening round one under par 70 at the US Women’s Open at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, SC Thursday. Talley is five shots behind leader Mamkio Higa of South Korea.
On the PGA Tour: Ryan Moore shot a seven-under 65 to finish in the lead after the opening round of the Memorial Golf Tournament at Muirfield Village. Moore opened with five birdies in the first seven holes and made 17 out of 18 fairways. Jordan Spieth is second at six-under 66 with five other players tied for third after shooting five-under 67s. Other first-round notables included Ricky Fowler at three-under, while Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods both ended the day at two-under.
Louisville area native Justin Thomas is tied for 30th at one under par while Campbellsville native JB Holmes is at four over.
