Nashville robbery suspect arrested in Clarksville following pursuit

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has released additional details on a pursuit and officer-involved shooting that led to the arrest of a man Tuesday evening in Montgomery County.

The pursuit began when a Coopertown police officer observed a vehicle on I-24 that was sought in a “Be on the Lookout Alert.”

The vehicle veered into oncoming traffic in Montgomery County and officials say as the driver attempted to turn around and drive the correct direction, the Coopertown officer positioned his automobile next to stopped vehicles, blocking the lanes of travel.

The officer got out of his car to approach the vehicle and early information from the TBI indicates the driver continued driving in the direction of the officer, and the officer fired at the vehicle as the car drove toward him.

The suspect’s car struck the driver’s side door of the officer’s vehicle as it drove by.

The suspect took exit 4 and eventually abandoned his car in an area behind Lowes off Wilma Rudolph Boulevard. He was eventually caught and taken to Tennova Health Hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was later lodged in the Montgomery County Jail and his name was not released due to being a suspect in an ongoing investigation.

Clarksville police say the man was a suspect in robberies in the Nashville area.

Police from multiple Kentucky agencies were waiting near the state line during the pursuit, as it was thought the suspect may be headed for Christian County.
