The Hopkinsville Tigers got a 7-3 win over Henderson County in semifinal action last night. The Tigers were stymied the first time through the lineup by Colonel left hander Sam Elliott. However, the Tiger bats woke up in the fourth inning and scored three runs thanks in part to a two run double by Layne Jorgensen after Henderson County built a 2-0 lead.
Hopkinsville would score four times in the bottom of the fifth to put the game away. The Tigers just had four hits with Ryan Myers, Jorgensen, John Duvall and Caleb Bapp collecting them. Starting pitcher Zach Caudill got the win while Jacob Dilday picked up the save. Hopkinsville improves to 20-13 on the season while Henderson County finishes 21-16.
Caldwell County took the opening semifinal game 6-2 over Christian County. The Tigers took a 2-1 lead after the first inning, added a run in the fifth inning and after Christian County got to within a run at 3-2 in the top of the 6th, Caldwell County scored three times in the bottom of the frame to cruise to the win.
The Colonels were held to five hits, with the only extra base hit a double from Lane Diuguid. Wyatt Stevenson went the distance in taking the loss as Christian County ends the season 17-15 while Caldwell County improved to 18-15.
This evening, Caldwell County and Hopkinsville play in the championship game at 6, with the winner to advance to the one game sub-state tournament Saturday at WKU. Heritage Bank pregame show coverage begins at 5:45 on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP and whopam.com.
McCracken County advanced to Saturday’s sub-state games with a 3-1 win over Paducah Tilghman in the 1st region championship last night.
Tonight, Owensboro Catholic meets Breckinridge County in the 3rd region championship game with Bowling Green battling South Warren in the 4th region title game.
