Bethel St. murder trial set for next year, juveniles to be tried as adults

A trial date was set in the Bethel Street murder case and the three juveniles involved will be tried as adults in the case.

All six suspects involved in the alleged attempted robbery that occurred in January and resulted in the shooting death of Corvyan Thomas and injured Dylan Stewart. The three adult suspects are Shakkory Willis—who is charged with murder, first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary—James Yates and Lane Carter.  Yates and Carter are both charged with complicity to robbery and burglary and unlawful transaction with a minor.

The three juvenile suspects appeared in court for the first time Tuesday and will be tried as adults, according to Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling. Madison Wilson and Tia Ochs are both charged with complicity to robbery and Korey Zivotin is charged with first-degree assault and first-degree robbery.

Willis is accused of shooting Thomas while Zivotin is alleged to have shot Stewart in the leg while Yates allegedly held Stewart down. Carter allegedly drove the suspects to and from the location on Bethel Street where the shooting occurred.

Wilson and Ochs allegedly entered the home before the incident occurred and communicated to the others about what items and money were in the residence.

Circuit Judge John Atkins set a trial date for February 17 of 2020 and the trial is expected to last a week.

Judge Atkins advised all attorneys present that they are welcome to file motions and request pretrial hearings as they are needed.
