HPD: Driver almost hit vehicles, officer in Stadium parking lot Friday night

A man leaving the graduation late Friday night at the Stadium of Champions was arrested on several charges after allegedly attempting to speed through traffic and away from police.

It happened just before 10:30 p.m. and the report from Hopkinsville Police Sgt. Rico Rodriguez says 27-year old Devon Poindexter of Hopkinsville nearly rammed three vehicles with his automobile as he tried to leave.

When an officer flagged him down, Poindexter allegedly fled at a high rate of speed in the crowded parking lot, and nearly struck an officer who was standing on foot. Poindexter reportedly later told police that he was tired of waiting in the parking lot and that he was ready to leave the area.

He was arrested and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, reckless driving and fleeing or evading police.
