Martin arraigned in court for Pembroke murders

Arraignment was held in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning for the former Army major accused of murdering three neighbors in Pembroke in November of 2015.

Local attorney Michael Thompson is representing 51-year old Christian β€œKit” Martin at this time and entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Martin was indicted for three counts of murder, arson, attempted arson, first-degree burglary and three counts of tampering with physical evidence.

The indictment stems from events that occurred on November 18, 2015, in which Calvin Phillips was found shot to death in his home located on South Main Street in Pembroke. The bodies of Pamela Phillips and their neighbor, Edward Dansereau were found a few miles away in a corn field near Rosetown Road in a burned up car owned by Mrs. Phillips.

Circuit Judge John Atkins confirmed to Assistant Attorney General Jon Heck that he has a month to turn over all discovery in the case to the defense.

The next pre-trial conference was scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10th.

Martin had moved to North Carolina since 2015 and he had been working as a pilot for PSA Airlines, a subsidiary of American Airlines.

He now remains in the Christian County Jail without bond.
