Christian County holds off Hopkinsville in 8th District Baseball final

Christian County won its fifth consecutive 8th district championship holding off a late rally from Hopkinsville for an 11-7 win. Hopkinsville led 1-0 heading to the bottom of the third before Christian County erupted for four runs in that inning with the Colonels coming back to score five in the bottom of the fourth.

Wyatt Stevenson came on to relieve winning pitcher Lane Diuguid in the fifth, allowing two hits in that frame before Hopkinsville scored six times in the top of the sixth to pull to within 9-6. The Colonels then scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to insure the win.
Elijah Underhill and Austin Fields each had three hits for Christian County with Lane Diuguid pitching four innings of hitless ball and striking out seven to get the win.

Hopkinsville got two hits from Layne Jorgensen with Zach Caudill taking the pitching loss. Both teams will go to next week’s 2nd region tournament that’s set to begin Monday at Union County. Christian County is 16-14 while Hopkinsville is 18-13.

The All District team was announced following the game. This year’s members are Tyler McKay of Fort Campbell, Luke Welch, Dan Johnson and Drew McGowan of University Heights, Caleb Bapp, Robert Justus, John Duvall and Layne Jorgensen of Hopkinsville and Eric Silvy, Jase Polley, Austin Fields and Wyatt Stevenson of Christian County.
