Bethel Street murder suspects appear in court

The three adults charged in connection with the January murder of a man on Bethel Street appeared Wednesday morning in Christian Circuit Court.

As previously reported, Shakkory Willis was indicted in March for murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary and unlawful transaction with a minor. Willis allegedly entered the residence on Bethel Street, along with co-defendant James Yates and a 14-year old juvenile, in an attempted robbery.  In the course of the crime, Corvyan Thomas was shot and killed and another victim, Dylan Stewart, was shot in the leg.

Willis allegedly shot Thomas, and the 14-year old is accused of shooting Stewart.

James Yates, who is indicted on charges of complicity to burglary, complicity to robbery and unlawful transaction with a minor, reportedly held Stewart down.

Lane Carter allegedly drove the suspects to and from the location on Bethel Street where the shooting occurred and is charged with several complicity counts.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling said Wednesday morning that the three juvenile suspects in the case will be in court next week and it might be better to wait until then to set a trial date.

Judge John Atkins agreed and set another hearing for Tuesday, May 28th at 12:45 p.m. when the three juveniles and three adult suspects and their attorneys can meet and find a suitable date for trial.
