Coroner confirms bones found under Young Hardware building were from animal

A work crew pulling up the floor at the old Young Hardware building on Sixth Street in Hopkinsville found bones and shoes Monday morning, but investigators determined the bones were not human.

Coroner Scott Daniel and Hopkinsville Police were called to the scene after the workers found the bones and a pair of rubber-soled shoes at about 9:15 a.m.

Officer Lori Kryszewski says investigation determined the bones were from an animal and there may be a good explanation for that, considering the building housed a butcher shop in the late 19th century.

Daniel says it remains a mystery why a pair of shoes was located under the floor, but there could be any number of explanations at a building that’s well over a century old.
