The Kiwanis Club of Hopkinsville annual Soap Box Derby has returned, which means kids and race cars are taking over Bethel Street Saturday.
The streets were closed Friday evening for the Super Kids race, which will be completed early Saturday morning. Derby Chair Annie Catron says the Super Kids race—which is designed for children with special needs—allows those kids a chance to compete and be a part of the fun.
The super kids are paired with another driver as they go down Bethel Street, and Catron says the winner gets to the National Championship in Akron, Ohio, just like any other soap box derby winner. She says the Soap Box Derby will start bright and early at 8 a.m.
The public is invited to attend and cheer on the racers—there will be food vendors on site and All money raised from the races goes back to help local children in various ways through the Kiwanis Club.
