A slew of activities are planned for Fort Campbell’s annual Week of the Eagles.
The Military Survivor Appreciation Week kickoff is at 3 p.m. Friday, with the Survivor Outreach Services Boots on the Ground Display opening ceremony. More than 7,600 boots will line the division headquarters lawn, in memory of fallen service members from Sept. 11, 2001 to present.
Screaming Eagle Super Saturday will feature the Run for the Fallen at 7:30 a.m. at Town Center Park. It’s a non-competitive run and soldiers and families are encouraged to participate.
The Sabalauski Air Assault School, 101st Division Artillery, and 101st Combat Aviation Brigade will conduct an “explosive” air assault demonstration at 1:30 p.m. and Jake Owen will headline the Week of the Eagles concert at the division parade field at 6 p.m.
Activities extend into next week and include the division run at 6:30 a.m. Monday and the decommissioning of the current Gander Memorial site on post as it will be moved to a new location this winter. It honors the 256 killed when a plane carrying Fort Campbell soldiers home from the Sinai Peninsula crashed near Gander, Newfoundland.
