Fraternal Order of Police, community remembers the fallen in memorial service

A crowd gathered together Thursday at the Law Enforcement Memorial Park behind the Hopkinsville Police Department to remember the fallen during the annual Fraternal Order of Police memorial service.

Members of the Hopkinsville Police Department, Christian County Sheriff’s Department and Fort Campbell Military Police were on hand to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. HPD Captain Erik Pacheco says officers put on their uniforms every day and strive to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

Fort Campbell Police Chief Keith Shumate says his officers face the possibility of death every time they go on call and they rise to meet it anyway.

Christian County Sheriff Tyler DeArmond urged the public to take a moment and remember those who have fallen every time they hear a siren or see a badge throughout the year.

The name of the 10 officers killed in the line of duty in Christian County—the first being Officer R. H. West in 1893 and the most recent being Officer Phillip Meacham in 2018—were read during the ceremony. A wreath was laid and a three volley salute was performed in honor of those heroes.
