Excessive speed and alcohol are listed as factors in a single-vehicle wreck early Wednesday morning in Calloway County that sent a passenger to a Nashville hospital.
The Calloway County Sheriff’s Department investigated the incident that happened about 12:30 a.m. in the 500 block of Douglas Road. Officials say Jake Wrye of Murray was traveling at speeds of 120 mph or greater in a Chevy Corvette when the car went airborne. He lost control of the car when it reconnected with the road and it left the pavement and struck several trees in two different ditch lines.
The Corvette rolled, but came to rest upright in the middle of the road. The engine broke free during the crash and was located in a creek bank about 500 feet from where the car left the road.
Wrye and his passenger, Austin Brittain of Murray, both had to be extricated and were taken to Murray-Calloway County Hospital.
Brittain was later flown by Air Evac to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Police say speed and alcohol are suspected as factors in the crash and the investigation continues.
