Ohio Valley League has spring meeting Saturday

The Ohio Valley League held its spring meeting Saturday with a number of items discussed.

OVL President John Bruce says one notable change this season will be the 10 run mercy rule. As is the case in college baseball, if one team is up 10 runs following seven innings the game will be over.

Other items discussed included doubleheaders, which as in years past will be two seven inning games. Bruce noted that the league plans to not schedule regular season doubleheaders after July 15th unless needed.

In other notes, the league announced all Mondays will be off days and with the addition of the Franklin Duelers this season, the East Division will have five teams while the West has four.

There will be a 4-5 play in game in the East Division to determine the fourth seed for the OVL East Playoffs. All playoff series will be best two of three games.

The Dubois County Bombers, the defending Bluegrass World Series champions, along with the Owensboro River Dawgs will play in that event in Louisville following the OVL season.

Fans will also vote near the end of the season on an All-OVL team, sponsored by Jones Brothers Trucking of Hopkinsville. There will be eight position players, one designated hitter and three pitchers, one starter, one reliever and one closer.

The Ohio Valley League season will begin May 31st. The Hoptown Hoppers will host Madisonville in their opener at Hopkinsville High’s Tiger Field.
