The Christian County Health Department hosted a lunch and learn at the Housing Authority of Hopkinsville Friday to discuss the affliction known as eczema.
Dermatologist Dr. Tanner Parrent says eczema is becoming more common in ‘wealthy countries’, due to cleanliness and hygiene practices. He says eczema is actually a broad term that covers a slew of different skin diseases that result in itchy, dry and blistering skin.
He says eczema can be trigged by a long list of factors, including food allergies, emotional stress and many external factors like pollen and dust.
Dr. Parrent says if you or someone you know suffers with eczema, do yourself a favor and avoid lotions, scented bathing products, harsh cleansers and other things that would dry out your skin. He says focus on putting moisture back into the skin with certain products and practices.
