Man already on sex offender registry arrested for alleged rape

A Hopkinsville man already on the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry was arrested Wednesday for an alleged rape near the rail-trail.

An arrest citation for 32-year old Orlando Montez Leavell says he enticed the female victim away from public view just after 4 p.m. He then allegedly physically assaulted her and forced sexual intercourse.

The woman was able to escape and fled to the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library, where police and EMS were contacted. She was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

Police were able to use video surveillance on the rail-trail to obtain a suspect description and Leavell was located at the West Seventh Street McDonalds. He had open scratch marks on his forearm that appeared to be defensive wounds and he matched the description of the suspect, according to the report.

Leavell allegedly tried to run from the McDonalds while being questioned, but was immediately caught and arrested.

He’s charged with first-degree rape, resisting arrest, fleeing or evading police and disorderly conduct.

The Sex Offender Registry indicates he was ordered to be monitored for the rest of his life after being previously convicted of first-degree attempted rape and first-degree attempted sodomy. His address is listed as being on Barberry Place in Hopkinsville.
