Community, Kiwanis commemorates National Day of Prayer

The Kiwanis Club of Hopkinsville celebrated the National Day of Prayer Thursday, along with organizations, churches and citizens across the country.

Henderson Memorial Baptist Church Pastor, and Hopkinsville Police Department Chaplain, Ron Hicks held a discussion about the National Day of Prayer, of which the theme for this year was “Love One Another.” He gave a brief history of the National Day of Prayer, which has a proclamation that has been signed by every U.S. President since Ronald Reagan’s presidency, saying it is good to live in a country that encourages freedom of religion.

He says now more than ever, people need to love one another, even if it’s someone you feel may not deserve it.

Following his remarks, he spoke a prayer over the community and each Kiwanian was given a period of time to pray to themselves about whatever they felt was needed. There were several services with different organizations throughout across the state and nation, and Hicks encouraged everyone to take a few moments sometime today and say a prayer for those around them.
