Arrest made after shots fired incident

An arrest was made Saturday afternoon following another shots fired incident in Hopkinsville.

ECC received multiple calls of shots fired on the east side of Hopkinsville about 6:20 p.m. and received a description of a suspect who ran from the scene and who was observed kneeling down near a storm drain on Liberty Street.

The suspect, 24-year old Dequan Cushenberry of Hopkinsville, was located by sheriff’s deputies and a gun was found in the storm drain.

Five shell casings were found in the 1300 block of Coleman Street and they appeared to be consistent with rounds loaded in the recovered handgun. No one was injured and nothing was damaged by the gunfire.

An arrest citation for Cushenberry says three ‘ecstasy’ pills were located in his pocket and two baggies of marijuana were found in his backpack, in addition to a pair of brass knuckles.

Cushenberry was arrested by Hopkinsville Police and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, tampering with evidence, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
