Woman accused of hindering apprehension of escapee

An 18-year old woman was arrested Friday morning for allegedly hindering the arrest of a Christian County Jail escapee.

As previously reported, Hopkinsville police officers located 22-year old Calvin Jermaine Merritt, Jr. at 607 Cypress Friday morning. He jumped out of a window and fled on foot, but was soon arrested at West Edmonds Street and Roosevelt Avenue. Merritt escaped Tuesday night from the Christian County Jail work release program.

Officers had been told Merritt and 18-year old Malika Weaver of Hopkinsville were asleep inside the Cypress Street home. Weaver had acknowledged earlier in the week that she knew Merritt was wanted and that there was a cash reward for his arrest.

She was arrested at the Cypress Street address and charged with hindering the apprehension of a fugitive.

Merritt was served with a warrant for second-degree escape and is additionally charged with fleeing or evading police.
