Pennyroyal Hospice celebrates volunteers, staff at fundraising dinner

It was a night of fellowship and remembrance at the 37th annual Pennyroyal Hospice dinner at the James E. Bruce Convention Center Thursday evening.

Supporters, community members, volunteers and staff of the organizations that helps take care of patients—and by extension their families—during the final months of their lives. Executive Director Kelly Martin says the care they provide wouldn’t be possible without their many volunteers and the staff that strive so hard to bring comfort to those who need it most.

He says they have approximately 64 volunteers who donated 2,700 hours of their time in the past year to assist the staff of Pennyroyal Hospice in a multitude of ways.

Keynote speaker Pat Bush spoke about what a blessing Pennyroyal Hospice was to her family, after they learned her mother only had three to six months to live, having been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

She says Pennyroyal Hospice was with them every step of the way and showed them there’s more to hospice than just death.

The winner of the Employee of the Year Paulette Anderson Award was Leah Dixon, who is a registered nurse that’s been with the organization for 10 years.
