Man charged with felony theft of vehicle following crash

A Hopkinsville man was charged theft of a vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident following a crash Tuesday evening.

According to the Hopkinsville police report, 24-year old Cameron Merritt of Hopkinsville allegedly took a vehicle valued over $10,000 from a detail shop without the owner’s permission. Following the theft, Merritt allegedly was involved in a collision with another vehicle on Popular Street around 8 p.m.

Merritt reportedly fled the scene of the accident before police arrival and was later located a few blocks away and arrested.

He was arrested and charged with felony theft of a vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.
