A presidential declaration of disaster has been granted for Trigg, Marshall, Lyon and 55 other Kentucky counties impacted by flooding and severe weather in February and March.
It was one of the wettest winters on record and Kentucky Emergency Management officials say the weather system caused over $41 million in damage statewide, the majority of that related to highways, bridges, and utility infrastructure.
Three Kentuckians lost their lives during the rough weather, along with several minor injuries.
The President’s declaration grants public assistance to impacted counties to repair roads, bridges and other infrastructure. The declaration will also provide the Commonwealth with mitigation funding.
Kentucky Emergency Management Director Michael Dossett says, “The team effort between our local, state and federal partners was key in receiving federal assistance for Kentucky. We can now begin the important process of moving recovery assistance into the declared areas.”
Western Kentucky counties along the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers are also included in the declaration.
