Woman killed in house fire

A woman was killed in a house fire Wednesday afternoon on Fairview Drive.

Trucks from all four Hopkinsville Fire Department stations were dispatched to 291 Fairview a little after 12:30 p.m. and arriving EMS personnel found a female in the yard with CPR in progress, according to Captain Michael Pendleton.

The woman was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, where she died from her injuries, with coroner Scott Daniel identifying her as 48-year old Melissa Rawlins. An autopsy was scheduled at the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Lt. Pendleton says most of the fire seemed to be in and around the kitchen.

While the flames were mostly contained, there was heavy smoke damage through most of the structure.

While it’s believed the blaze began in the kitchen, the cause remains under investigation and the State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted to assist.
