Kentucky AG calls for sickout subpoenas to be rescinded

Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear is challenging subpoenas from the Bevin administration seeking the names of teachers involved in “sickouts” during the legislative session.

Beshear says the subpoenas are unlawful, and may constitute threats, intimidation or coercion.

The Labor Cabinet sent subpoenas to a half dozen districts. Teacher absences forced some districts to cancel classes for several days.

Beshear, who is a Democratic candidate for governor, is calling on Governor Bevin and the Labor Cabinet to rescind the subpoenas within 10 days — or he’ll take them to court.
