The Pennyrile Area Development District Board of Directors got a visit from the new President of Murray State University at Monday’s meeting and proclaimed it Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.
Sanctuary, Inc. Executive Director Heather Lancaster appeared before the board and requested that all the Mayors and Executive Judges sign the proclamation declaring April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. Lancaster urges people to keep the conversation of sexual violence awareness and compassion ongoing throughout the year.
New Murray State President Dr. Robert “Bob” Jackson was appointed that the position in full in March after serving as interim president for several months. Speaking with PADD, he says he intends to be out and about in the communities often to see how they and Murray State can best serve each other.
He says about half of high school graduates in the Pennyrile and Purchase Area Development Districts go on to pursue a college education, so that certainly impacts Murray State.
Dr. Jackson says they’re always looking for ways to draw new students to their campus, which he says has some of the best educators and opportunities in the nation. He says that the recent success of the college’s basketball team has made enrollment inquiries and donations spike and they intend to take advantage of that to improve the college.
Dr. Jackson takes over for Dr. Bob Davies, who resigned in August of last year to accept a position as President of Central Michigan University.
