Volunteers recognized for thousands of hours of service

The Pennyrile Allied Community Service Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and others gathered at the Senior Citizen’s Center Friday to celebrate those who volunteer their time to help others.

PACS RSVP Coordinator Mary Robinson says their volunteers fill many roles and needs in the community, donating 19,872 services hours in the last year, which saved around $278,000.

Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble read a proclamation for the Recognition of National Service Day, saying those volunteers do everything from tutoring, disaster relief, providing meals on wheels and so much more.

Robinson says PACS continues to offer tax filing assistance for senior citizens and low income families and she urges people to take advantage of the service. Other volunteers want people to know that PACS RSVP says they serve more than just senior citizens and have many educational programs and more that are available for everyone.

Judge Tribble presented the proclamation to Robinson, who accepted it on behalf of the many volunteers who help the community be the best it can be.
