The Rotary Club of Hopkinsville got a visit from recently retired Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Bill Cunningham at Tuesday’s regular meeting.
Justice Cunningham served in that capacity from 2006 until he stepped down on February 1 of this year. Before that, he served as Eddyville City Attorney, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 56th judicial district and as Circuit Judge in that district from 1992 until his election to the high court.
Cunningham says he intends to spend plenty of time with his family and as for what comes next—he says he hasn’t decided yet.
He says he greatly approves of Judge David Buckingham of Murray being appointed to serve as Justice.
Cunningham says if he were to give any advice for people in the years to come it would to be nicer to those around you, whether that be in politics, the justice system, or life in general.
The 74-year old has written local history books on topics such as the Night Riders saga over the years and says he plans to be involved with the workings of western Kentucky for many more years to come.
He also gave a presentation about former Governor Ned Breathitt and the impact he had on state and civil rights.
