A mistrial was declared Monday morning in the case of Karen Brafman, the woman charged with attempted murder and arson for an incident last May in Cerulean.
Brafman allegedly set a mobile home on fire on Princeton Road on May 12th, 2018. There were six people inside, including four children. All were able to escape unharmed and Brafman was arrested soon after for six counts of attempted murder and one count of arson.
The charges were pursued as hate crimes, as the Commonwealth alleged they were racially motivated.
Trial was set for Monday morning and Commownealth’s Attorney Rick Boling says the mistrial was declared when a potential juror mentioned encountering Brafman in the Christian County Jail during jury selection.
Boling says he argued against the mistrial, but was unsuccessful.
Brafman’s trial was rescheduled for next Monday, April 8th, according to Christian Circuit Court Clerk Paige Parker.
