Foot pursuit ends with arrest of man on warrant, drug charges

A foot pursuit ended on North Jessup Avenue Sunday afternoon with the arrest of a man on an outstanding warrant and several new charges.

A Hopkinsville police officer saw a man walking through a grass field from the back yards on North O’Neal Avenue and stopped to ask for his information. He claimed his name was John Smith and then started walking away, according to an arrest citation, which says he was later identified as 29-year old Joshua Smith of Hopkinsville.

He allegedly began running when told stop and tossed aside a jacket containing synthetic drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Smith was soon located under a porch in the 100 block of North Jessup. He was served with a warrant for probation violation and additionally charged with fleeing or evading police, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of synthetic drugs and tampering with evidence.
