Christian County and Hopkinsville opened an 8th district series last night with the Colonels getting a 1-0, 8 inning victory at Colonel Field.
It was a pitcher’s duel for the entire game with Lane Diuguid battling Robert Justus. The Colonels had just four hits to the Tigers three, but the bottom of the 8th inning brought home the winning run for Christian County. Austin Fields reached on an error by Hopkinsville shortstop Ryan Myers, with Jacob Dilday brought in to relieve Justus on the mound. After Fields stole second, Dilday gave up a base hit to Eric Silvy that proved to be the game winner.
In getting the pitching win, Christian County’s Diuguid struck out 12, with Hopkinsville’s Justus striking out 12 in getting a no decision. Christian County improved to 3-2 and 2-0 in the district while Hopkinsville fell to 4-1 and 1-1 in district games.
The teams square off again tonight at Tiger Field at 6, with the Heritage Bank pregame show at 5:45 on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP and whopam.com.
