Christian Fiscal Court hears reports on roads, renovations

Christian Fiscal Court heard reports on roads and renovations during its first meeting to be streamed live on Facebook Tuesday morning.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Deputy Secretary Paul Looney requested input from local officials as they begin to construct a road plan for 2020.

Meanwhile, Lucas Gilliam with the Cabinet gave a report on Rural and Secondary Road Program projects scheduled for this year—with the top priority to be work on KY 117 beginning at US 41A and heading north for about 4 and a half miles.

Repaving about 4 and a half miles of Poole Mill Road in Crofton and 3 and a half miles of Vaughns Grove Fairview Road starting at US 68 are also on the list.

The Transportation Cabinet is repaving the Eagle Way Bypass from Cadiz Road to Lafayette Road this year and most of US 41 outside of the city limits of Hopkinsville.

Magistrates approved a $12,000 change order for renovations to the Alhambra Theatre. Architect Jack Shah gave a final report, saying the improvements to the facility have been well-received by the community.

Renovations are ongoing at the Pennyroyal Area Museum and Director Alissa Keller says work is also getting underway to have exhibits ready when the museum reopens in approximately nine months.

Fiscal Court agreed to match grant funds to conduct studies on the upper tennis courts at Ruff Park which have deteriorated and become unusable in some instances. Grant money would also be available to repair those courts and to build new ones, but the county wants to determine what is causing those issues first. The lower courts have remained in good condition.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Department received approval to declare several items in its warehouse as surplus property, including three K9 kennels that were donated to the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office.
