Grand jury indicts man for reckless homicide

A Christian County Grand Jury returned an indictment for reckless homicide against the man charged in the death of a woman on Striped Bridge Road in August of 2018.

The indictment was returned against 31-year old Brandon Pickett of Striped Bridge Road, for reckless homicide and first-offense DUI. He was originally charged with murder in the death of 49-year old Trina Akin of Trigg County, but it was amended to reckless homicide in the indictment.

As previously reported, an arrest citation for 31-year old Brandon Pickett of Striped Bridge Road says both of his arms were covered in blood when deputies arrived on scene of Striped Bridge Road on August 28 around 10 p.m. Pickett reportedly said he had been drinking wine with Akin at a nearby home on Striped Bridge and they were on the way to his residence when the incident happened. Akin was reportedly not wearing a seat belt and fell out of the Jeep with no doors when Pickett made a left turn in the road.

Akin was taken by EMS to Jennie Stuart Medical Center and was pronounced deceased.

The grand jury indicted 34-year old Melvin Wilcox of Hopkinsville on charges of first-degree criminal abuse, two counts of fleeing or evading police, abandonment of a minor, leaving the scene of an accident, fourth-degree assault and several traffic violations.

In October, Wilcox allegedly kicked his child’s mother in the face and then fled from police in his vehicle at a high rate of speed. He eventually wrecked his pickup into a wood line on Glass Avenue and fled on foot, leaving behind his eight-year old son who was trapped inside.

The child was extricated by the Hopkinsville Fire Department and taken by EMS to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment of lacerations.
