Sanctuary, Inc. hosting sexual assault awareness and prevention campaign in April

Sanctuary, Inc. is gearing up a campaign in April to increase sexual assault prevention awareness and they’re asking for the public to participate.

According to a news release, the campaign will begin in April—which is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month—and will have a theme of “I Ask” this year. It will champion the phrase “I ask”, whether it be asking to hold someone’s hand, for permission to share personal information with others, or if a partner is interested in sex.

It is the statement by which individuals will demonstrate that asking for consent is a healthy, normal, and a necessary part of everyday interactions, and it will set an example for their partners, friends, and loved ones.

April 3 is wear teal day, with teal being the color that represent the awareness month. On April 8, Sanctuary, Inc. will be with the Pennyrile Area Development District at 12 p.m. for a proclamation signing, while April 10 is Chalk the Walk Day and April 24 is Denim Day.

For more information, or to sign up to participate, call 270-885-4572. The goal of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities on how to prevent it.
