A Wind Advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. for western Kentucky and middle Tennessee, more heavy rainfall is expected and the entire area is under a slight-to-enhanced risk for severe weather.
Hopkinsville and Cadiz had already received nearly one and three-quarters of an inch of rain by 5 a.m.—well over what had been forecast for overnight. Be on the lookout for standing water in low-lying areas and remember to turn around, don’t drown. Another inch of rain is likely to fall this morning and this afternoon.
The Wind Advisory is for sustained south to southwest winds of up to 30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph. Outdoor objects are likely to be tossed around, large tree limbs could be brought down and trees may be uprooted with the saturated ground. The National Weather Service says some power outages are possible with limbs falling on lines.
Driving a high-profile vehicle will become difficult in the region today.
Most of Todd County is under an enhanced risk for severe weather and areas to the west of Elkton, including Christian and Trigg counties, are in the slight risk area. The primary threats are damaging winds and heavy rain, with an isolated tornado possible.
Severe storms will be most likely during the afternoon hours.
