Christian County citizens who can’t make it to the courthouse at 8:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month will soon be able to watch Fiscal Court meetings as they happen or days later on Facebook Live.
District 6 Magistrate Phillip Peterson says meetings will be streamed live on a Christian Fiscal Court Facebook account that was set to go online this week.
Peterson has performed some test runs and the only concern is if watchers will be able to hear everyone speaking. There will likely be some tweaks along the way to make the system work better.
Peterson says viewers won’t be able to give immediate feedback during the meetings in the Facebook comment section—they’ll still need to contact the magistrate for their district.
The Facebook Live stream should be up and running for the March 26 meeting.
Meanwhile, Christian County Jailer Brad Boyd says he was contacted by the Livingston County Jailer during the recent floods regarding assistance saving Smithland from the rising Ohio River. Boyd says he provided 16 inmates who helped construct sand barriers.
In other action, Magistrates accepted a bid from Brymak and Associates for maintenance and janitorial service at the Christian County Justice Center. Maintenance services will be $147,000 per year and janitorial services came in at $90,000. That’s a savings of about $60,000 from current costs.
