Man injured in East Ninth Street wreck dies

The man injured in a wreck Thursday on East Ninth Street has died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

As previously reported, 57-year old Stephen Hayes of Hopkinsville had been westbound on East Ninth shortly after 7:30 a.m. when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a large sign post at the Marathon gas station on the corner of Campbell Street.

Hayes was unresponsive when officers found him and CPR was performed at the scene. He was taken first to Jennie Stuart Medical Center and then to Vanderbilt, where he died Sunday morning.

The Hopkinsville Police report says he may have lost consciousness behind the wheel before crashing due to a medical episode.
