Medical marijuana bill makes it out of committee

A bill is moving forward in the Kentucky House that would legalize medical marijuana.

The House Judiciary Committee, chaired by state Representative Jason Petrie of Elkton, approved the bill Wednesday night that would make Kentucky the 34th state in the nation to legalize marijuana if it is signed into law.

The bill does prohibit the consumption of medical marijuana by smoking and eliminates a provision that would have allowed patients to grow a small quantity of plants themselves.

The legislation now heads to the full House for consideration.
