Hopkinsville teen injured, facing charges after crashing during pursuit

A Hopkinsville teenager was injured and is facing criminal charges after crashing at the end of a vehicle pursuit in Logan County Saturday.

The incident began at the BP on West Main Street in Elkton, where the 17-year old male allegedly stole a man’s cell phone. Witnesses saw the teen drive off at a high rate of speed and the victim ran out of the store asking for them to follow the suspect.

A witness dialed 911 and followed the teen and Logan County deputies found the car on the US 68 Bypass at US 79 South.

After initially pulling over to the shoulder, the teen fled again and turned onto West Ninth Street in Russellville. He attempted to turn onto South Main, but lost control and struck a sidewalk retaining wall.

The 17-year old was taken to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision. His name has not been released due to him being a juvenile in a criminal investigation.

Police say a computer check showed the Chevy Impala he was driving had been reported stolen in Hopkinsville.
