Woman charged with leaving baby home alone

A woman arrested on warrants Wednesday afternoon was additionally charged with abandonment of a minor for allegedly leaving her nine-month old baby home alone.

Hopkinsville Police arrested 21-year old Emily Dearinger at North O’Neal and West First Street a few minutes after noon and served her with a warrant for non-payment of fines.

According to an arrest citation, Dearinger admitted to leaving the baby home alone and provided the officer a key to the residence.

Police found the nine-month old at home alone in a crib, wearing a soaked diaper and lying on wet blankets.

The report says multiple partially-smoked synthetic marijuana cigarette butts were found on the kitchen table, on the floor of the living room near the crib, on the bathroom sink and on the bedroom floor.

Dearinger reportedly said she had only left the baby home alone for 45 minutes to pick up a friend and hang out, but police believe it was longer.

Dearinger was lodged in the Christian County Jail and the Department of Community Based Services took custody of the baby.
