The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers held the Rice Owls scoreless for more than seven minutes late in regulation, then made clutch plays in the extra periods for a 92-85 victory in double overtime.
The Hilltoppers played without head coach Rick Stansbury, who missed the game because of a lingering back injury. Josh Anderson led WKU with 24 points and Jared Savage pitched in 21, including the three point goal that got the Hilltoppers to their 1,000th consecutive game with a three pointer. The Hilltoppers play at North Texas tomorrow at 5 pm.
Meanwhile, the Lady Toppers fell to league leading Rice 68-46 at EA Diddle Arena. The Lady Toppers host North Texas tomorrow at 2 pm.
