Governor Matt Bevin presented his fourth State of the Commonwealth address Thursday night in Frankfort.

Passing pension reform legislation again remains the top priority for the General Assembly and Governor Bevin applauded efforts lawmakers are making to find a bipartisan compromise.

He urged more Kentuckians to provide a home to the 9,705 children in the foster care system and said the state needs to rethink what’s best for the child—saying reuniting with the parent isn’t always in the child’s best interest.

Governor Bevin remembered the eight police officers from Kentucky who died in the line of duty over the last year, including Hopkinsville Police Officer Phillip Meacham.

He asked all Kentuckians to urge TVA to delay its decision on whether or not to close the coal-burning power plant at Paradise, saying a shutdown would hurt the entire Commonwealth.

The governor addressed Kentucky’s opioid crisis, praising work that’s already been done, but saying there’s more to do.
