A Hopkinsville couple arrested over the weekend on drug charges is now facing endangering and abandonment of a minor charges.
As previously reported, 32-year old Sunshine Austin and 48-year old Johnny Austin of Hopkinsville were arrested Sunday following an investigation into shoplifting complaints.
They were located at a Linwood Drive location, with marijuana allegedly found on Johnny Austin’s person and a prescription pill and baggies were located under his seat.
Police say Sunshine Austin had a syringe loaded with narcotics in her clothes and that meth and heroin were found in her purse. A search at the jail allegedly revealed a baggie and pill in her body.
The new arrest citations from Tuesday say police later learned the couple had two children in their custody that had been going without adult supervision since the arrests. The Austins did not notify police of the children and they had been going to different locations to find food.
The children were also not enrolled in any school or home school program.
