Elkton to vote on alcohol sales on Primary Election Day

Voters in Elkton will decide whether or not to allow alcohol sales in their city on Primary Election Day.

During a special-called Todd Fiscal Court meeting Tuesday afternoon, Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield confirmed the Make Elkton Wet group had gathered enough names to get the referendum on the May 21st primary ballot.

The petitioning group had requested it to coincide with the primary and Mansfield said it also makes it more efficient and cost-effective for the county.

The ballot question will be very simple and only voters who live in the city will decide.

In other action, magistrates went into closed session for about 30 minutes regarding ongoing or proposed litigation, but did not take any action.

Fiscal Court also approved a $1,000 expenditure to make the Clifty Volunteer Fire Department restrooms ADA compliant so the facility can continue being used as a voting precinct.
