City of Hopkinsville receives clean opinion on audit

The City of Hopkinsville received the 2017-18 audit report at Tuesday’s meeting and heard a report from the Trail of Tears Commission.

Kerry Fort with York, Neal and Associates presented the audit report, which includes the financials and the internal control portions, and said he was glad to report that the City received a ‘clean’ audit.

He complimented officials on their reporting standards, but says that they are now facing an issue in the form of pension liability. The City of Hopkinsville is allocated a certain amount by state government each year to pay into the pension, and it’s expected have a large impact on the city.

Mayor Carter Hendricks says the city has no control over the amount they must pay and will work diligently to attempt to find ways to pay that liability without sacrificing funding obligations to the community.

In other action, council heard the Trail of Tears Commission report, learning that the park on East Ninth Street has recently once again received a certification from the National Parks Department as an Interpretive Site.

The Distinguished Young Women of Christian County were recognized at the meeting and Hopkinsville Police Officer Zachary Hardy was sworn in.
