The First United Methodist Church daycare remains closed after a former employee was arrested last week on abuse charges.
Rev. William Moore is the United Methodist Church District Superintendent for the Pennyrile region and spoke at the church worship service Sunday morning that was streamed live on Facebook.
He says the daycare has remained closed, pending action by the church administrative board.
Rev. Moore also announced that the church’s pastor, Rev. Paige Williams, has been asked by Bishop Leonard Fairley to step away from her duties for about three weeks.
As previously reported, an arrest warrant against 23-year old Allison Simpson of Hopkinsville alleges she, “subjected a 10 month old baby in her care to cruel confinement and punishment and wantonly engaged in conduct toward another baby, 8 months old, which created a substantial danger of serious physical injury to both babies.”
She was arrested Wednesday of last week on charges of second-degree criminal child abuse and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.
Hopkinsville Police have said the investigation into the alleged incidents is ongoing.
