Highway fatalities down last year in Kentucky

There were less highway fatalities in Kentucky last year than in 2017.

Numbers provided by the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety show 722 people died in crashes on Kentucky roads in 2018, down from 782 in 2017.

One possible factor is an increase in seat belt usage, with officials saying it jumped from 86.8 to 89.9 percent last year.

Jason Siwula is the acting director of the Office of Highway Safety and says, “We are encouraged by the reduction in fatalities, and we thank the traveling public for making choices behind the wheel, like buckling up and driving sober, that prevent the loss of life on Kentucky highways.”
