Grand jury returns indictments for assault, felony theft

A Christian County Grand Jury returned several indictments Friday, including for assault of a police officer, fleeing or evading police and felony receiving stolen property.

Indicted on charges of third-degree assault of a police officer and fleeing or evading police is 22-year old Jessie James Williams of Hopkinsville. According to the arrest citation, Hopkinsville Police Officer Tommy Hoffman was assisting Williams outside of the Pennyroyal Center at Hammond Plaza in November.

Williams allegedly struck Officer Hoffman twice in the face with a closed fist, causing injuries, before fleeing the scene on foot. He was apprehended after a short foot pursuit.

The grand jury indicted 32-year old Steven Dale Hodge and 31-year old Amy Hodge of Hopkinsville on charges of receiving stolen property under $10,000, fleeing or evading police and possession of drug paraphernalia in relation to a stolen vehicle in December.

The suspects had allegedly been seen operating a vehicle that had been reported stolen and had fled from the truck on foot. Amy soon stopped, surrendered to police and said Steven had started the truck by breaking the ignition and using a screwdriver.

A used syringe was allegedly located in the glove compartment during a search, along with a plastic bag holding a metal spoon and a monopoly game piece containing white residue behind a seat. Steven Hodge is additionally charged with driving on a suspended license.
