Mike Foster receives Bill Franklin Volunteer of the Year Award

A member of the first graduating class of Hopkinsville Community College has been selected as the 2019 Bill Franklin Volunteer of the Year Award by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.

Former Christian County Attorney Mike Foster has been selected from nominees across the southeastern United States. He was nominated for the award by Dr. Alissa Young, President and CEO of HCC. Dr. Young says, “This is an enormous honor and accomplishment, to have a volunteer leader like Mike recognized by CASE, competing with four-year, two-year and private institutions. We are so very pleased that Mike’s dedication and support of HCC and community college education particularly is being honored and recognized on a national level.”

Foster was one of the 220 students in the inaugural graduating class of 1967 and the first in his family to graduate from college. He has also represented HCC in a multitude of ways, including serving on the board and as President of the Hopkinsville Community College Foundation, Inc. and represented the college on the Kentucky Inter-Alumni Council for the Kentucky Council on Post-Secondary Education and was elected its president.

He has made numerous donations over many years, including raising money in the annual Mike Foster Golf Scramble for textbook scholarships, and helping fund the new BuildSmart initiative.

Foster will be honored during the opening session of the CASE III District Conference at the Westin Peachtree in Atlanta on Sunday, February 24.
